“Good morning, Sunday.” Carey has written about it before and I’m sure I’ve mentioned it but, I love Sunday. I hate that it’s the last day before another crazy week begins but it’s always such a comfortable morning, complete with coffee, computers, phone calls and house cleaning. Today SHOULD be a day of rest but I’ve put off so much from the last few days that my list of things to accomplish today is slightly overwhelming.

“40 Years of Sunny Days”

Thanksgiving has always been a day of food and festival but today, it was also a day for surprises and gifts.
I’ve been on a bit of a Jim Henson kick lately, due in large part to the fact that it was recently the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. When I stumbled to my computer this morning I discovered a DVD, propped up against my monitor. It was a special edition of Sesame Street with the best bits and pieces from the last 40 YEARS of Sesame Street. 40 YEARS of Sunny Days. 40 YEARS of creative genius, complete with never before seen interviews and behind the scenes stuff from the Jim Henson Studios.
We watched a bit of it this evening as we all sat idle post-meal but you can bet that tomorrow I’ll be watching the ‘extras.’
I am thankful for… a wife that knows me and loves me and surprises me with things she knows I’ll love. I could not have asked for a better day with a better person (or group of people).
This post is brought to you by the letter ‘C’ (for Carey) because without her, it would not exist. I was ready for bed but she told me I needed to come in here and make an update.

“Drawing a Creative Blank”

I realize this is a rather boring update/scan for the day (it looks a lot like yesterdays) but every once in a while, I think we need to stop, breathe and tell ourselves … it will be okay. As I mentioned on my Facebook, I recently purchased a very lovely printer as the ‘next step’ in the evolution of my creative work but as it appears, now that I have the printer, I’m drawing a creative blank. I’m hoping the Thanksgiving break (from work and school) will give me time to refocus and get back on track.
Here’s to you Thanksgiving.

“Project: Simply Put”

Secretly, I work on many projects at once, Simply Put being one of them. More to come. Seriously.

“Boobs and a Boob”
So last night (yes, I failed to make a 365 update) Carey and I went to the Girls’ Night In (and Out) event at Taboo Tabou for a bit of burlesque dancing, some wine and a chance to win a $350 sex swing… oh, and to support Chicago Women in Film.
I don’t go out often but at the request of some friends and something of an abnormal surge in social energy, it seemed like a good thing. I’ve never seen burlesque dancers in the flesh so it was neat to watch these two amazing, confident ladies dancing in the store window from out on the sidewalk with a small group of folks. I can only imagine what passersby must have thought!
Sadly, we didn’t win the sex swing or any of the great prizes they had but we DID win a good time with some folks I haven’t seen in a long while as well as the chance to socialize in a non-work setting with some new people.

“Susie Orman Made Me Do It”

A few weeks ago I was sitting in front of my computer (drinking beer) and decided it was a good time to take the advice of Susie Orman and apply for a store card. According to her, everyone should have ONE store card (which we use responsibly of course). I spent a few moments trying to decide WHICH store I should pick, which in hindsight seems a bit silly since I was 99% sure it wouldn’t matter anyhow as my credit is not the greatest and hasn’t been for years. Regardless, I decided I would apply for a Home Depot card. Every man should have a Home Depot card, right?
So the mail came today and with it, an envelope from folks in the Home Depot Credit Services department. Needless to say, I was NOT approved for a Home Depot card. This whole experience got me thinking, however, and I left the house for school a bit upset.
I know my credit isn’t great and I can honestly say it wasn’t until this past year (or two-ish) that I’ve really started to buckle down with making sure my bills are being paid on time. And now, with Carey and I married and a future to plan, it seemed like a good time to REALLY start looking at our financial situation. So I guess what I’m getting at is, I know I still have work to do and bad credit isn’t fixed in a year but it’s really not a good sign when I can’t get a Home Depot card. It makes me wonder how Carey and I will ever be approved for a mortgage (before we’re 50).
… I’m not gettin’ any younger folks.
